This is the website for the research stream / network sociology of knowledge. We intend to bring together researchers interested in this topic within the european sociological associaton.

Having a long and wide history, the sociology of knowledge is not limited only to theoretical thinking and “high-leveled forms” of knowledge. It deals likewise with everyday knowledge of any kind, knowledge-making processes on a meso-level of collective actors and institutions up to scientific knowledge claims and its effects on the everyday lifeworld. Some of the crucial dimensions of Sociology of Knowledge research include the role of knowledge in social theory, related empirical research and methods as well as the sociological diagnosis of contemporary society. It is particularly concerned with the ways in which various forms of knowledge contribute to the social and communicative construction of reality. Given the variety of approaches in the different countries of Europe that are explicitly or implicitly devoted to a sociology of knowledge perspective, the RS/RN will serve as platform where diverse approaches to sociology of knowledge are explicitly brought into discussion.
